The Magic of Street Art: Color, Creativity, and a Pair of Wings

Abbot Kinney, Los Angeles

I’ve always been fascinated by street art — murals, graffiti, and large-scale urban pieces that turn everyday walls into emotional, visual stories. Over the years, what was once dismissed as vandalism has evolved into a respected form of artistic expression. And honestly? I love every bit of it.

There’s something incredibly powerful about walking down a random street and suddenly being stopped in your tracks by a burst of color or a beautifully executed mural. Spray cans, bold brushstrokes, stencils, paste-ups… the techniques are as diverse as the artists themselves. I admire the boldness — this kind of art isn’t hidden in galleries; it lives out in the world, exposed to weather, time, and passersby.

One of my favorite types of street art? The interactive murals — especially the ones with wings. You know the ones: big, bold, and just waiting for someone to step into the center and become part of the piece. I fall for them every time. I’m not an influencer by any means, but I’ll gladly stop, pose, and snap a photo. Not for the algorithm — but for the love of art itself: the drawing, the concept, the color palette, the story behind it.

Here I’m sharing one of my favorite wing murals I’ve come across and photographed. Each one feels like a portal — not just to fantasy, but to self-expression. Whether it’s on the side of a building, an alleyway, or a forgotten wall, these murals remind me how art can bring joy, meaning, and beauty to everyday spaces.

Even if you’re not looking for the perfect Instagram shot, you might just find yourself standing in front of a street mural that speaks to something inside you. When that happens — take the photo. You’re stepping into a living, breathing piece of art.

So next time you come across an interactive mural — don’t be shy. Step in, strike a pose, and let yourself become part of the art. Go ahead… give it a try and shoot!
